What email accounts do you support?

DestroyMail currently supports Gmail, Yahoo!, iCloud, Outlook.com, AOL. We also support other IMAP-based email providers (e.g., GoDaddy) but please note that this feature is in beta.

Do you read my emails?

Absolutely not. We have no ability to access or read your emails. We also don’t have access to your username or email password — you simply input that information to link your email accounts to DestroyMail so that you can begin annihilating your messages. Your email is hosted with your provider, not with DestroyMail.

What happens to destroyed messages?

Destroyed messages are saved in a folder or label called "Destroyed." In the account settings, you can also designate a different folder for destroyed messages.

Does DestroyMail support multiple email accounts?

Yes! You can add up to 5 different email accounts.

Does DestroyMail work with iOS6 or earlier iOS versions?

No. DestroyMail is optimized for iOS7, which is available for free for all iPhone users.

Can I randomize the animations that destroy my messages?

Yes! Simply shake your iPhone at the inbox screen to shuffle through the animations you have downloaded.

Does DestroyMail support push notifications?

Not exactly…but if you are using the app regularly you’ll generally be alerted of new mail. In order to support true push notifications, we would have to host your emails on our servers (not something we want to do).

How do I set up my account?

Go to Add Account, select your email provider, and enter your account data as prompted. For "Other" accounts, you may have to identify the server and the port numbers. We have suggested some candidates, but you may have to search for your specific server and port numbers online (this should just take a few seconds!).

How do I improve the performance of DestroyMail?

Sometimes DestroyMail animations will slow down. Usually this is because other apps are running on your iPhone and you didn’t even realize it. By closing apps that you don’t use, your phone will perform much better, and DestroyMail will as well. Here’s how to do it:

Can I use DestroyMail with 2-step authentication?

Yes! You’ll need to generate an "application specific password" and enter that password in DestroyMail instead of your standard email password. It takes only a minute to do and then you’re all set! These links help make it simple:

Does DestroyMail support Alias or "Send as" features so I can send emails from my various addresses?

Not yet, but that will also likely be available down the road.

How can I get DestroyMail to work on my new device?

If DestroyMail isn’t syncing on your new device, please delete your email account within the DestroyMail app, close and then re-open DestroyMail, and then re-add your email account. Double-check your password closely to make sure it’s correct. Also, check your connection to cellular or wireless.

What languages does DestroyMail support?

Buttons and other interface elements are not yet translated. But, because the app is email-based it still works really well with other languages besides English because all your emails, folders and labels will appear in your native language!

How do I search for a message?

Pull down on the inbox or any folder to reveal the Search box, then type in your search term. Currently DestroyMail searches only the email on your phone, but you can search messages on your email server by tapping the button that appears below your results.

How do I attach a photo to an email?

Go to your photo album, touch and hold on a photo, then click "copy". You can then paste this into DestroyMail.

What if I accidentally destroy an email?

Don’t panic! Your destroyed messages will be saved to a folder or label called "Destroyed". Simply select this folder to find your destroyed messages, then tap the EDIT button in the upper right, tap the message you want to move, tap the "move" button and choose the inbox or other folder destination.

Does DestroyMail support threaded conversations?

Not just yet. We’re actively working on this feature and it’s a top priority for us.

Why does Outlook.com show duplicate messages in my sent folder?

It’s a great question, and a great mystery. Outlook.com recently introduced IMAP compatibility, so we *think* it is something they will fix. They’ve had some problems with Hotmail moving over to IMAP too, so we’re waiting for them to improve that. It could be a bug in our system, but they do have some known issues.

How come a message sometimes reappears after I destroyed it?

At times, your provider’s mail server may be unable to delete the message. If the IMAP client is unreachable, or encounters an error, then we rollback the request and re-display the message. This is more common with "other" IMAP clients.
